FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 2, 2014
In light of reduced funding and agency capacity, Sexual Assault Support Services (SASS), the primary provider of sexual assault support services in Lane County, will reduce hours of services. Beginning Monday, January 6th, to maintain the best possible services with limited resources, SASS announces the closure of Drop-In Advocacy Services on Mondays and Fridays.
Drop-In Advocacy Services will still be available 9am – 4pm, Tuesday – Thursday. As always, for those in need of any SASS service, please contact the 24 hour Crisis Line.
Although SASS’ Drop-In Advocacy Services is one of its most utilized services, it has been extremely difficult to sustain given current funding levels and agency capacity.
“Although this past year’s increase in state funding through the Oregon Domestic and Sexual Violence Services Fund has certainly helped, like many other local service providers, SASS has seen a decrease in funding from other sources over the past few years,” says BB Beltran, Executive Director of SASS. “I think given our current capacity, the best course of action is to reduce the hours of our Drop-In Advocacy Services. It is important to note that Drop-In Advocacy Services will still be available Tuesday through Thursday and survivors will still be able to access other critical services like our 24-hour Crisis and Support Hotline and Medical and Legal Advocacy. I am confident that SASS will continue to provide the essential support survivors and their partners, friends and family need.”
